The bike ride

First the back ground... on my facebook I have several Danish acquaintences that I have sorta forced myself on over the years. Soren Wenck is one of my connections.  After hunting for several weeks before my trip I thought I would give up and was alittle bent over it and im smiling thinking about it. After a day or two I checked my facebook and found Soren was headed out for a race in the south of sealand....thats the island Copenhagen is on. Long story short.. Soren knows my host family and offers me a bike..SHWING!!!

When Thomas returns from a bike race in France we go out the next day. Now for the ride.

Im totally thinking  im going to wear just shorts and a tee shirt..its just a ride right? Well Thomas has other plans. Out come a full bike kit with arm warmers gloves, glasses and helmet.   I was transformed..and thought I may have been a bit over dressed. The pictures will show my look. We set out after my guide assured me that I would be back by midnight and that I hopefully would not vomit, and on that note we were off.

It was dusk and as we headed towards the horse trails I got alittle nervous. I was riding with a semipro rider on a full front and rear shock s works test bike. The trail narrowedand the smell if horse shit faded to the damp sandy wood smell of  forest.Surprisingly we did not encounter any other riders on the trail that evening. Denmark is though of as being flat, but our location is well over 500 feet. We rode for over 13 miles, stopping afew places for pictures and info on sites. I slowly regained some of my bike chops and im glad that I did alittle training  before flying over. The terrain  varied from dark forest, to open trail and single track.
Deer were all over the place! Near the end of the ride I started to gas out. Some of the climbs were crazy steep and by now it was almost pitch black in the woods. The 29er can trick you Into thinking u can do  anything. I found out I couldn't lol.

The last few miles we stumbled through the forest and finally made it home. The familier smell of horse shit returned. I was forced  into being grateful for kit and the sleeves as it got cooler the darker it got. And I got afew trail  bumps to prove it!

I have to thank Thomas and Soren for sparking my trail riding bug again.

Update

Been afew days and I have to thank our host family for being nice enough to let us crash the place. The first day or so here was alittle unpredictable as far a weather goes but oh boy has that changed. We are in the middle of a Danish indian summer. CRAZY ! Sun and sun and more sun.

The last I blogged I think I was planning a run ir complete it. 10k I put under my belt in a huge 11 square kilometers park called the Deer Park in English. I was rewarded for the run at the halfway point with a view of the sea and Sweden.  A spit of beach was the pot of gold at this end. Due to the wonderful weather there was no lack of space as the Danes scramble for color on the winter bones. To the right...clothing...to the left..none. Decisions Decisions.

Now deer park gets its name due to all the deer living in the park. So trail running involves jumping horse and deer poops. But the views and the majesty of the forest makes u forget all about that. But not the stinging nettle.
